Infants, Nutrition and Health in 20th Century Montreal

This selection of approximately 120 images sheds light on the realities of life for infants in the 20th century. The series shows foods for young children, notably, milk, the conditions in which children lived, as well as advances in their health care.


  • Portraits of infants, portraits of families with their babies, portrait of a deceased child;
  • Baby carriages, cribs, baby clothes and accessories;
  • Nipples for baby bottles, baby bottles, milk advertisements, caricatures, picture of milk factories, milk delivery truck and pasteurization equipment;
  • Health services, pictures of childrens' hospitals, maternity rooms.
